Setting up TipTap for Gorgias
Last updated: September 15, 2026
TipTap lets your customers tip the Gorgias agent who actually helped them. When an agent resolves a ticket, the customer gets an optional thank-you link — no extra work for the agent, and nothing for you to build.
Installing takes about two minutes. You install the app from the Gorgias App Store, approve the permissions, and map your Gorgias agents to their TipTap accounts. This guide covers the whole flow, what TipTap adds to your Gorgias account, and how to disconnect.
Before you start
There is one requirement: you need to be an admin on your Gorgias account. Gorgias only lets admins approve app permissions, and if you install as an agent it stops you with a permission error rather than an explanation.
You do not need a TipTap account beforehand. Installing creates one for you — a TipTap company named after your Gorgias domain, owned by the admin who installed, with a temporary password emailed to that address to sign in with the first time. TipTap is free for companies: no subscription, no setup fee, no per-agent cost.
You do not need a developer either. There is no code to deploy, no webhook to host, and no API key to copy between systems — the install exchanges credentials for you.
Installing the app
Open the Gorgias App Store from your Gorgias account and find TipTap.
Click Install. Gorgias shows you a consent screen listing the permissions TipTap is asking for.
Review the permissions and click Authorize. Gorgias sends you back to TipTap, which finishes the connection in the background.
You land on a confirmation screen once the integration is live. If you see an error instead, nothing was half-connected — you can safely start again.
That's the whole install. TipTap now has a connection to your Gorgias account and starts watching for resolved tickets straight away.
If this was your first time, check your email — we send a welcome message with a temporary password for your new TipTap account. You'll be asked to change it when you first sign in. If you already had a TipTap account, just sign in as usual.
You can confirm the connection from the TipTap dashboard, under Integrations: Gorgias will be listed as connected.
What TipTap adds to your Gorgias account
So the install is not a black box, here is exactly what appears in your Gorgias account afterwards:
An HTTP integration, which is the endpoint Gorgias calls when a ticket is resolved. It points at TipTap and carries a secret unique to your account, so we can tell your tickets apart from anyone else's.
A rule that fires that integration when a ticket is updated. The rule is what decides that a ticket has been closed and that TipTap should take a look at it.
Both are created under your Gorgias account and are visible to you in Settings. Please leave them in place — deleting either one stops tip invites without disconnecting the app, which is a confusing state to debug. If you want to turn TipTap off, disconnect properly instead; see below.
When a resolved ticket is eligible for a tip invite, TipTap posts that invite into the ticket as a reply to the customer, and Gorgias sends it as an email like any other reply. It goes out from your own support address — the one the customer originally wrote to — rather than from the agent personally. It appears in the ticket thread, so your agents can see exactly what was sent.
That reply is the only thing TipTap writes to your Gorgias account. We don't change ticket statuses, don't alter tags or fields, and don't contact your customers outside the ticket they already opened.
Connecting your agents
Installing the app connects your company. Tips are paid to individual agents, so each agent also needs a TipTap account linked to their Gorgias user. That linking does not happen automatically at install — you run it once from the TipTap dashboard.
In TipTap, open Settings, then Manage Integrations.
Find the Gorgias integration and click Sync Agents. TipTap reads your Gorgias agent list and links each one to the TipTap account that has the same email address.
The integration then shows how many agents are synced and when the sync last ran. Anyone who didn't match is listed, so you can invite them or map them by hand.
Each agent accepts the TipTap Agent Agreement and completes Stripe onboarding — this is how they get paid, and it's done directly with Stripe. TipTap never sees or stores their bank details.
Matching is by email address, so an agent whose Gorgias login uses a different address than their TipTap account won't be matched automatically. Map those by hand once and the link stays put.
Run Sync Agents again whenever you add people to Gorgias. It isn't scheduled, so new agents won't appear on their own. Syncing only ever adds links, never removes them, so it's safe to re-run as often as you like — and taking someone out of Gorgias doesn't unlink them in TipTap.
Until an agent has finished Stripe onboarding, tickets they resolve simply don't generate a tip invite. Nothing breaks and nothing is sent to the customer; the ticket is skipped quietly. You can add agents at any time, and they start earning from their next resolved ticket.
Disconnecting
You can disconnect at any time, and you should do it from TipTap rather than from Gorgias.
Open the TipTap dashboard and go to Integrations.
Disconnect Gorgias.
TipTap then removes the HTTP integration and the rule it created in your Gorgias account, so nothing is left behind firing at an endpoint that no longer wants it. Tip invites stop immediately.
If you instead revoke TipTap's access from inside Gorgias, the app stops working but the integration and rule stay in your account until TipTap next notices the revocation. Disconnecting from TipTap is the clean path.
Tips that were already paid are unaffected by disconnecting, and agents keep access to their TipTap account and their payout history.
Troubleshooting
Permission denied during install. You're signed in as an agent rather than an admin. Gorgias requires an admin to approve app permissions. Sign in as an admin, or ask one to run the install.
The install finished but no tip invites are arriving. Check three things in order: that you've run Sync Agents at least once under Settings then Manage Integrations, that the agent who resolved the ticket is matched and has finished Stripe onboarding, and that the ticket was actually closed rather than snoozed with a human reply on it.
A new agent isn't getting tips. Sync isn't scheduled, so someone added to Gorgias after your last sync won't be linked yet. Run Sync Agents again. If they still don't match, their Gorgias email differs from their TipTap account email — map them by hand.
Clicking Install again does nothing. If TipTap is already connected, the Install button takes you to a confirmation screen rather than reinstalling. To start over, disconnect from the TipTap dashboard first, then install again.
"Already registered as a TipTap agent." The Gorgias admin email you're installing with is already an agent account in TipTap, and an agent can't also own a company. Install with a different Gorgias admin email.
"Already owns a company connected to a different Gorgias account." That email owns a TipTap company that is already linked to another Gorgias account, and a company can only be bound to one. Use a different admin email, or email support@tiptap.cx and we'll move the existing connection.
Something else. Email support@tiptap.cx with your Gorgias account name and, if you have one, a ticket ID that should have produced an invite. That's usually enough for us to trace it end to end.
