Getting started with TipTap

Last updated: July 25, 2026

TipTap lets your customers tip the support agents who actually helped them. After a ticket is resolved, the customer can leave an optional tip and a short thank-you note. The tip goes to the agent, and companies pay nothing to use TipTap.

This guide walks companies through connecting their helpdesk, walks agents through getting set up and paid, and answers the questions we hear most often. If you can't find what you need, our support team is one email away.

What is TipTap?

TipTap is a digital tipping platform for customer support teams. It connects to your existing helpdesk and, after a ticket is successfully resolved, gives the customer a clean, dismissible option to tip the agent who helped them.

There are three people in a typical TipTap flow:

Companies onboard with the TipTap team and connect their existing helpdesk. TipTap is free for companies — there is no subscription, no setup fee, and no per-agent cost.

Agents receive tips and get paid directly to their own bank account. Agents keep 90% of each tip, minus standard Stripe payment-processing fees; TipTap's 10% commission is the only fee TipTap charges.

Customers (we call them Tippers) leave a tip if they choose to. Tipping is always optional and only ever appears after a ticket is resolved.

TipTap is fully hosted. There is no code to ship in your app and no servers to run — the integration works over your helpdesk's official API.

How tipping works

The tip flow is designed to be invisible until a ticket ends well, and effortless when it does:

A customer contacts support and an agent resolves their ticket in your helpdesk as usual.

When the ticket is marked solved, TipTap adds an optional tip invitation to the resolution — typically alongside the closing message or CSAT survey. Nothing is injected mid-conversation.

If the customer taps it, they land on a hosted TipTap page where they choose an amount, optionally leave a thank-you note, and pay securely through Stripe's hosted checkout.

The tip is attributed to the agent who resolved the ticket, and it appears in that agent's TipTap dashboard along with any note the customer left.

Tips are collected and paid out to the agent's bank account on a regular payout schedule.

Customers are never forced or pressured to tip. There are no pop-ups, no guilt prompts, and the option is always dismissible.

For companies: connecting your helpdesk

Companies onboard with our team rather than signing up on their own for now. Getting started begins with a quick call, and most teams are live in under a day once we begin — no engineering or IT project required.

Get in touch to get started. Book a call or email us, and we'll walk through how TipTap fits your team.

Tell us about your helpdesk. TipTap supports Zendesk, Intercom, and Freshdesk today; if you use something else, we can build a custom integration.

We integrate with your helpdesk. An administrator authorizes the connection through your helpdesk's OAuth flow, which grants TipTap only the minimum access it needs — it does not pull ticket contents or customer PII beyond what's required to route a tip.

Choose which tickets show the tip invitation. By default it appears on all resolved tickets. During onboarding you can tell us exactly which tickets it should be served on — by tag, status, or ticket type — and we'll configure that while integrating.

Invite your agents and go live. Your existing helpdesk agents become the agents in TipTap, so there's no separate user provisioning to manage.

For agents: setting up your account

If your company has connected TipTap, you'll receive an invitation to set up your account. Setup takes a few minutes, and you keep 90% of every tip, minus standard Stripe payment-processing fees.

Accept your invitation and sign in to the TipTap dashboard at app.tiptap.cx.

Confirm your profile so tips can be attributed to you correctly.

Complete a quick identity verification. This is handled by Stripe to meet Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements — your identity details and documents are collected and held by Stripe, not by TipTap.

Add the bank account where you'd like to receive payouts. Your bank details are held securely by Stripe; TipTap never sees or stores them.

Once you're verified, you're ready to receive tips on your next resolved ticket. Your dashboard shows tips as they come in, along with any thank-you notes customers leave.

Payouts and getting paid

Tips are paid to the agent through Stripe, and TipTap handles collection and payout.

Where the money goes: each tip is paid to the agent who resolved the ticket. Agents keep 90% of each tip, minus standard Stripe payment-processing fees; TipTap's 10% commission is the only fee TipTap charges.

Who receives the payout: in most cases tips flow directly to the agent's own Stripe account and the employer never handles the money. In some countries where Stripe does not support Express connected accounts for individual agents, payouts may be routed differently, as set out in the company's agreement with TipTap.

Payout schedule: tips are batched into monthly payouts for now, sent straight to the agent's connected bank account. You can see pending and paid tips in real time from your dashboard.

Your earnings belong to you: if you change jobs, your historical earnings and payout records stay with your TipTap account, not your former employer.

Taxes: reporting and filing taxes on tip income is each agent's own responsibility, in their own jurisdiction. Whether tips are treated as earned income depends on local rules. TipTap does not issue tax forms; where applicable, Stripe issues them. Your dashboard tracks your earnings to help you keep records.

Managing your account

Everything you need to run TipTap lives in the dashboard at app.tiptap.cx.

Agents can review tips and reviews, track earnings, update their profile, and manage payout details (updates to bank or identity information are handled through Stripe).

Companies can manage connected helpdesks, control which tickets show the tip invitation, manage team members, and view aggregate team metrics. Individual tip amounts stay private to each agent.

Disconnecting: companies can disconnect TipTap at any time with no penalty. Agents keep all tips earned up to that point.

Security and your data

TipTap is built to see as little customer data as possible. To route a tip we use only a ticket ID, the assigned agent, and the resolution timestamp — we do not store ticket contents or customer PII beyond what a tip transaction requires.

Payment details are never handled by TipTap. Customers enter their card information on Stripe's hosted checkout page, and Stripe processes it as an independent controller. TipTap never receives a customer's name, email, billing address, or card number.
